John McDoual Stuart was born in 1815 in Dysart within Scotland and died in 1866 in London within England at the age of 51 years.
As the first European Stuart explored Australia in a way from Adelaide in the South to Darwin in the North. For his honour the highway directed North-South was called Stuart-Highway. After the build of that highway the railway "old Ghan" was no longer in use.
